Mahomet Cemetery
Annual Events
The annual homecoming event is held at the cemetery each spring on the Saturday morning before Memorial Day. In 2023, it will be held on May 27th at 10:00 AM. Veterans who served our country in the Mexican American War through the present are honored with a flag ceremony followed by a barbecue lunch and business meeting. All family and friends are welcome to "come home" and visit.
Mahomet Cemetery Annual Meeting: May 27th, 2023
Every year we hold an annual meeting at the Mahomet Cemetery for all Board Members, Family, and Loved Ones to attend. During this meeting we provide a break down of all the expenses used the previous year, share new updates made to the cemetery, talk about future projects, donation opportunity, and ask for feedback from all attendees. This business meeting is at the Mahomet Church tabernacle following the memorial ceremony. You will need to bring your own chairs. In addition to the in-person meeting there will also be a virtual Zoom meeting link available for those who can not physically attend. The link for this meeting will be on the Mahomet Cemetery Website (Mahomet Cemetery.org). The meeting ID and pass code needed to join the meeting will be provided in the annual notification letter that is being mailed out. If you do not receive the letter and need the information contact Ron Johnson board secretary/treasurer.
Mahomet Cemetery Annual Work Day: March, 4th 2023
A few highlights from the past annual workdays include:
-
We are proud that the family of Bud and Eunice Smith, who provided our flag pole in years past, provided a new flag this year. It was flown proudly.
-
We are proud that Fred and Sharian (Williams) Kinnison donated many hours and sacks of concrete leveling and cleaning a number of the very old tomb stones.
-
We are proud that once again this year Lyle and Agnes McAndrew brought their lift and trimmed the trees.
-
We are proud of the untold hours that our members spent cutting, trimming and meeting families at the cemetery. Our hat is off to him for his years of service.
A special thanks to each and every volunteer who donated their time and efforts to clean, cut, trim and repair the cemetery. Those that paved the way in years past would be proud of the result of our current contributions. We should continue to invite our children and/or grand children to work day next year so the next generation will carry on this wonderful tradition.
